“Alice in Wonderland”Starring: Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Matt Lucas, Michael Sheen, Crispin Glover, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman. Directed by:Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

Plot: From Walt Disney Pictures and visionary director Tim Burton comes an epic 3D fantasy adventure “Alice in Wonderland,” a magical and imaginative twist on some of the most beloved stories of all time. Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen’s reign of terror.

Thoughts: How can you go wrong with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp? “Alice in Wonderland” looks amazing and this has Burton’s visuals written all over it. Also, I’m sure the 3D will be awesome and the movie as a whole will not be disappointing. Critics saw absolutely no Wonder in this Wonderland. Trailer.

“Brooklyn’s Finest”Starring: Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle, Wesley Snipes, Ellen Barkin and Vincent D’Onofrio. Directed by: Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Bait).

Plot: In the course of one chaotic week, the lives of three conflicted New York City police officers are dramatically transformed by their involvement in a massive drug operation in “Brooklyn’s Finest,” a searing new crime drama from acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua. The film captures the volatile and deadly world of one of New York’s most dangerous precincts through the eyes of the men and women pledged to protect and serve, as they face the wrenching choices that make them “Brooklyn’s Finest.”

Thoughts: I don’t know what it is about this movie that gets me so hyped to see it. I think Jay-Z’s “Run this Town” playing on the trailer and tv spots is what does it to me. “Brooklyn’s Finest” looks like a combination of “New Jack City” and “Donnie Brasco” and that’s what’s most intriguing. Also, it’s good to see Wesley Snipes back on the big-screen and not in movies that are $4.99 at a Duane Reade DVD bin. Critics say Brooklyn could have done a hell of a lot better. Trailer.

In Limited Release:

“Stolen”Starring: Jon Hamm, Josh Lucas, Rhona Mitra and James Van Der Beek. Directed by: Anders Anderson. Plot: Work has become an obsession for Detective Tom Adkins since the disappearance of his ten-year-old son, Tommy Jr. When an early morning phone call leads him to the mangled remains of a young boy who was brutally murdered 50 years ago, Adkins takes on the case in hopes of finding absolution. His investigation leads him to a man who lived in 1958 named Matthew Wakefield and his innocent son, John. The striking similarities in the cases pushes Adkins’ obsession over the top. Barely holding onto his sanity and bound by redemption, Adkins unravels the unspeakable truth behind what happened to his son. Quick Thought: ”Stolen” looks like a decent thriller that will be seen by me on the IFC Channel. On a side note: Rhona Mitra is always HOT! N/A Rating on Rottentomatoes.com. Trailer.

“The Secret of Kells”Featuring the Voices of: Evan McGuire, Brendan Gleeson, Mick Lally, Christen Mooney, Liam Hourican and Michael McGrath. Directed by:Tomm Moore. Plot: Young Brendan lives in a remote medieval outpost under siege from barbarian raids. But a new life of adventure beckons when a celebrated master illuminator arrives from foreign lands carrying an ancient but unfinished book, brimming with secret wisdom and powers. To help complete the magical book, Brendan has to overcome his deepest fears on a dangerous quest that takes him into the enchanted forest where mythical creatures hide. It is here that he meets the fairy Aisling, a mysterious young wolf-girl, who helps him along the way. But with the barbarians closing in, will Brendan’s determination and artistic vision illuminate the darkness and show that enlightenment is the best fortification against evil? Quick Thought: I love the animation in this movie. It’s like the Metropolitan Museum of Art threw up and they filmed it. “The Secret of Kells” came out of nowhere to nab an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Movie and now we will get to see why. However, everyone knows “Up” will win the Oscar. 92% Rating on Rottentomatoes.com. Trailer.

See you at the movies!
