“The Hunger Games”Starring: Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Wes Bentley (Seneca Crane), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), Paula Malcomson (Mrs. Everdeen), Stanley Tucci (Caesar Flickerman), Donald Sutherland (President Snow), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), Woody Harrelson (Haymitch Abernathy) and Willow Shieds (Primrose Everdeen). Directed by: Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Pleasantville ).

Plot: Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I’m impressed with the trailer. I think fans of the book will enjoy seeing their favorite characters and events come to life. The film seems to have a low-budget feel to it but I think it suits this movie well.

Thoughts? Any fans of the books disappointed in the trailer? Anyone not familiar with this book or movie interested in watching it now that they’ve seen the trailer?

Expected Release Date: March 23rd

“Snow White and the Huntsman”Starring: Kristen Stewart (Snow White), Chris Hemsworth (Huntsman), Charlize Theron (The Evil Queen), Ian McShane (Caesar), Sam Claflin(Prince Charmant), Ray Winstone(Trajan), Eddie Izzard (Tiberius), Bob Hoskins(Constantine), Toby Jones (Claudius) and Nick Frost (Tiberius). Directed by: Rupert Sanders.

Plot: Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the one girl threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, “Thor”) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

Hm, my interest has been piqued. Charlize Theron seems to be having fun with this role and Chris Hemsworth is doing what he does best which is kicking ass. The only thing I don’t buy is the 105-pound Kristen Stewart doing battle with major baddies. Also, Stewart is not that great of an actress. She always plays the shy type roles that requires her to speak softly (exception is when she’s calling for Edward in the Twilight movies). Hope she proves all of us wrong. ”Snow White and the Huntsman” opens June 1st, 2012

“Snow White and the Huntsman” is also one of two adaptations of Snow White movies coming out next year. There’s also “Mirror Mirror” directed by Tarsem Singh (Immortals, The Cell) . ”Mirror Mirror” stars Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Prince Andrew Alcott and Nathan Lane as a servant to the Queen. Expected release date is March 12th, 2012. Oh boy…

“Safe House” – Starring: Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Vera Farmiga, Tim McGraw, Brendan Gleeson, Robert Patrick, Sam Shepard and Ruben Blades. Directed by: Daniel Espinoza.

Plot: Oscar® winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House. Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he’s remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.

“Training Day” + “16 Blocks” = “Safe House”. I didn’t pass high school calculus so don’t take that equation to seriously.

Will you watch “Safe House” because of the actors involved, because you find the plot interesting or not at all?

Fun “Scream 4″ Trailer

“Scream 4″Starring: Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Adam Brody, Marley Shelton, Brian Cox, Alison Brie, Lucy Hale, Mary McDonnell and Anthony Anderson. Directed by: Wes Craven.

Plot: Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courteney Cox), who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) and her Aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell). Unfortunately Sidney’s appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger.

I’m impressed with this trailer. “Scream 4″ seems to have kept all the humor and scares that have become a trademark to this successful franchise. I’m a huge fan of “Scream” but the sequels were less fun and it became what it once was making fun of…it became a cliche. I’m hoping this fourth installment brings back the fun and entertainment that “Scream” had many admiring and praising it for when it was originally released.

Expected Release Date: April 15th

“Red Riding Hood”Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez, Max Irons, Julie Christie, Gary Oldman, Lukas Haas and Virginia Madsen. Directed by: Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Twilight).

Plot: Valerie (Seyfried) is a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon…

It’s “Twilight” for team Jacob! Ok, maybe not – but this movie looks both ridiculous and boring. There was nothing impressive about this trailer and it’s hard to keep a straight face when Seyfried says, “what big eyes you have”. However, if there’s another trailer where our heroine is shown kicking hairy werewolf ass…then maybe I’ll be interested. As of right now, ”Red Riding Hood” looks like a fairytale to mature for children and to goofy for adults.

Expected Release Date: March 11th

“Priest”Starring: Paul Bettany (Priest), Cam Gigandet (Hicks), Maggie Q (Priestess), Karl Urban (Black Hat), Stephen Moyer (Aaron), Christopher Plummer (Monsignor Orelas), Brad Dourif (Salesman), Madchen Amick (Shannon) and Lily Collins (Lucy). Directed by: Scott Charles Stewart (Legion).

Plot: “Priest” is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany is Priest, a legendary warrior priest during the last Vampire War, who now lives in obscurity among the other human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities controlled by the Church. But when his 18-year-old niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires in the desolate wastelands outside, Priest breaks his sacred vows and ventures out to find her and seek vengeance upon those responsible, especially their brutal leader (Karl Urban). Priest is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, Hicks (Cam Gigandet), a local outpost sheriff, and Priestess (Maggie Q), a member of his former legion of vampire-killers who has otherworldly fighting skills. Based on the graphic novel of the same name.

I throughly enjoyed this trailer. It has everything you would want in a movie about a priest killing vampires. There’s action, cool CGI and a hot Maggie Q. Honestly, this movie had me at Maggie Q. Also, it’s about time there’s a movie about the scary vampires that used to haunt my dreams as a kid and not the vampires that sparkle in sunlight that currently haunt my dreams as an adult. Oh, and I’ll skip the 3D.

Expected Release Date: May 13th

“Battle: Los Angeles”Starring: Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena, Bridget Moynahan, Ne-Yo and Ramon Rodriguez. Directed by: Jonathan Liebesman (Darkness Falls, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning).

Plot: For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.

“Battle: Los Angeles” looks very promising. However, I must admit, I’m a sucker with any movie that requires Michelle Rodriguez to carry a massive gun. I’m hoping this movie is more “District 9″ and a hell of a lot less “Skyline” and “Independence Day”. I swear, if I see Aaron Eckhart punch out an alien, I’m going to walk out of the theater in both laughter and anger!

Expected Release Date: March 11th

“Skyline”Starring: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Kate Mara, Laz Alonso, Brittany Daniel, Scottie Thompson, Crystal Reed and David Zayas. Directed by: Colin Strause, Greg Strause (Aliens vs. Predators: Requiem).

Plot: In the sci-fi thriller “Skyline”, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.

This trailer was losing me after all the talk of aliens possibly invading Earth was the focal point. We’ve already been there and done that several times before and it’s getting tiring. However, the ending surprised me and freaked me out, just a bit. I’ve never seen anything like that before and I loved it! I’m not a fan of the cast because there’s not one headlining actor in this film, but maybe they spent the money on the CGI instead, which wouldn’t be a bad thing. Consider my interest highly piqued.

Expected Release Date: November 12th

Hilarious “JackAss 3D” Trailer

“JackAss 3D”Starring: Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pontius, Preston Lacy, Jason Acuna, Dave England and Ehren McGhehey. Directed by: Jeff Tremaine (Jackass, Jackass Number Two).

Plot: The third installment of JACKASS this time in eye-popping 3D. Yeah, that’s the best I can do with plot description. You either know what “Jackass” is about already, or you don’t. If you don’t, then you probably won’t care for this movie anyway.

I saw this trailer in front of “The Other Guys” and the ending to this preview had me in tears from laughter. Personally, I’m a fan of the “Jackass” movies, even though “Jackass Number Two” was hardly as good as its predecessor. Also, while I’m not excited to see a someone’s penis or someone vomiting in 3D,  I’m excited to have a good time with this latest installment in the “Jackass” series.

Expected Release Date: October 15th

“Machete”Starring: Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Rose McGowan, Daryl Sabara, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey. Directed by: Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Sin City) & Ethan Maniquis.

Plot: The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his “holy” brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.

Wow, this movie is going to be so bad ass! It looks fun, sexy, action-packed and violent. There’s some cool scenes in here - but my favorites have to be Alba in her underwear and Michelle Rodriguez as a kick-ass bikini-top wearing killer! Also, Cheech Marin rocking shotguns and ready to kill some baddies in a church just adds-on to this amazing trailer. “Machete” rocks!
